TEAMPLAY FOR DOOMSERV

Team play is defined as two or more players acting together against another team, in a deathmatch Doom game. Team play is not "coop" play. Team play is fun, whether or not there is any coordination between team members. Usually a well-organized team will trap an opposing member between them, and well you know what follows, a frag for the team. To get the most out of team play, a level should be used where teleports and corridors are kept to a minimum. Keeping track of each other on a team is the absolute best way to kill effficiently.

Zdoom will allow for friendly-fire which can make it tough, enabling players to kill their teammates, giving a frag to the other team. Most will agree leaving friendly-fire off will make for a better game, leaving the players to only concentrate on killing the other team members.

HOW TO SETUP A TEAM GAME

IN CHAT:

  1. Go to separate chat room with players who are going to be in game. This minimizes confusion! Who isn't for that?
  2. Decide who's on which team
  3. Decide names for teams
  4. Decide color or skin for team--some visible way of telling each team from the other. Colors which are too close to each other are not very good for teamplay. One team might have a certain color, but not necessarily the same skin (blue StrifeGuard and a blue Chaingunner, i.e.) Colors don't have to be exact, just clear enough to distinguish who is on which team. Skin files used by the teams have to be on all of the computers involved.
  5. Quick tip: each player could then solo launch to go setup their team name and color/skin. That way they are set when the game starts. It can be done during multiplayer, but some players get impatient waiting for the action to start.
  6. Decide who hosts, that person chooses "Teamplay--Yes" in the gameplay options in zdoom AFTER the game starts. Important to remember that most of the teamplay setup is AFTER all players have entered into the game.
  7. Host, decides friendly-fire or not. Default is "yes" which makes the game more difficult. Host should select this in DM Flags in Doomserv before launch, but it can also be changed after it starts by the host, in gameplay options in Zdoom.
  8. Make sure that team name, team color, and friendly-fire are understood before entering the game, because it's impossible seeing chat messages while in options in Zdoom.
IN GAME:

  1. If you haven't done so already, go to player setup --put in your team name (you must press "Enter" after typing)
  2. Change skin or color as decided in chat.
  3. For host-- go to "Options/Gameplay options/" choose "Teamplay--Yes."
    • Quick tip: in console, host types set teamplay 1
    • Quick tip: in console, all players can type team [teamname] to quickly join a team.
Remember a team game can be started at any time during any game. Knowing how to get the most out of zdoom takes a lot of playing and having fun tweaking the game.
